From the relatively simple “hanging tree” tattoo to the tree tattoos laced and blended with complete stories finely detailed in the “bark”, the tree tattoos are among the most versatile and popular tattoos and can also be used to bring different style tattoos together, to enhance already beautiful scenic tattoos or even tree tattoos telling a story all their own. Some of the tree tattoos are seemingly simple tattoos of small branches protruding from the bough of the tree. Still, on closer inspection, many of these tree tattoos designs reveal an intricate design of branches. While as often as not, these branches are drawn at the whim of the tattoo artist creating the design, occasionally the branches will reflect points in life, different aspects of a certain experience or even on occasional, a literal genealogical tree tattoo often representing children and others who have come from or been important to the person wearing these complex tree tattoos.
Still other popular tree tattoos seem to be nothing more than a tree from afar but upon closer inspection, reveal detailed and intricate artwork within the bough and the branches of the tree itself. Often, faces, bodies and even other works of tattoo art are concealed within the texture of the bark. Oak tattoos are particular favorites for these as are the lower back tattoos in order to allow more room for the tattoo artist to let their creativity really flow and giving them a larger canvas for the tattoo art. Smaller tattoos are often included in the tree tattoos including leaves tattoos, flower tattoos and even more mythical and mystical creatures like the fairy tattoos or other mythical forest creature tattoos.
While the Italian tattoos vary greatly as well, one of the commonly recurring themes are the trees tattoos which are used to depict both natural scenes and as the actual canvas on which entire scenes were created within the tree tattoos. It is unknown if Italy is the origin of the highly intricate tree tattoos but many of the Italian tattoos still utilize the tree tattoos in addition to the Italian Crosses and Italian architecture in their tattoos. While this portion may be best answered by someone well-versed in tattoo trivia and the history of tattoos, the fact remains that these tree tattoos are in fact, a wonderful addition to many existing tattoos as well as being beautiful tattoos even when used all alone.
If you are contemplating getting your first tattoo or you are looking to add to your existing tattoo collection, trees may or may not be what you ultimately decide on. However, remember that even if you do decide on the tree tattoos, you are certainly not going to be restricted to having just another tree. What you do with your tree tattoos is limited only by your imagination.
