Selena was born in Grand Prairie, Texas to Mandy Teefey (née Cornett) and Ricardo Joel Gomez. Her parents got divorced when she was five and she was raised by her mother. She is named after the Tejano singer, Selena. Being in past episodes of Barney when she was younger, Selena Gomez has been filming as lead character Alex Russo,in the Disney Channel show Wizards Of Waverly Place a TV show based on kids whose parents own a sandwich shop, who can do real magic. She has guest starred twice on the Hit Disney Channel show Hannah Montana where she plays Mikayla, Hannah Montana's Rival singer. Even though she is not friendly with Hannah on set, off set she is actually best friends with Miley Cyrus, the actress who plays Hannah. She has starred in TV movies, "Another Cinderella Story" and "Princess Protection Program" and more recently landed the lead in the film, "Ramona and Beezus". She has also been recently cast in the upcoming films, "Monte Carlo" and "Thirteen Reasons Why". She is also the lead singer for the pop rock band Selena Gomez and the Scene and has signed a record deal with Hollywood Records. She has been noted to often work with Alan Cumming, Cheech Marin, Mike Judge, Tony Shalhoub, and Daryl Sabara. Her film credits include an appearance in the movie Spy kids 3-D. She is also actively involved as a UNICEF Ambassador and was involved in the UR Votes Count campaign in 2008. She is also involved in the Disney's Friends for Change foundation. In October 2008, Selena launched her own production company, July Moon Productions. In 2009, she announced she was starting her own fashion line, "Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez," which has yet to be released. Selena owns five dogs and love animals. She has recently started dating Justin Bieber and they have been seen showing their affection in many parts of LA.
